Unique Student Identifier (USI) - What You Need to Know

A Unique Student Identifier (USI) is your personal education number for any nationally recognised training in Australia. It gives you access to a secure online record of all your VET training.

Why you need a USI:

• Required by law for all nationally recognised training (including RPL)

• Allows us to issue your qualification or statement of attainment

• Keeps track of your training records in one place

• Helps verify your previous study for RPL purposes

If you don’t have a USI yet:

• It’s free and only takes a few minutes to create

• You’ll need one form of ID (e.g. driver licence, Medicare card, passport)

• Create yours at: www.usi.gov.au 

Already have one but unsure where it is?

• You can recover your USI with your email, phone number or ID via the USI website.
